What we do Who we are Fundraise International Development Kenya International Development Mental Health Services Saint John of God Mental Health services in Malawi has been providing mental health promotion and care since 1994. In recent years there has been an influx of clients from the central region coming to access services in Mzuzu, which is a distance of almost 400 kilometers. The need was critical and led to the establishment of full mental health services in Lilongwe to bring services closer to the people. In 2012, the service opened an Out Patient Mental Health Clinic within Likuni Mission Hospital while awaiting completion of a purposefully built mental hospital complex in Lilongwe. The new Lilongwe mental health facility has 49 residential beds, a step down rehabilitation unit, OPD clinic and Addiction Recovery Centre. Outpatient Services Outpatient services are provided by interdisciplinary team that includes; mental health clinicians, mental health nurses, social workers, and clinical psychologist, who work together to meet clients’ needs. Outreach Clinics Once a month outreach teams provide mental health clinics to in over 20 different communities.The team provides assessment reviews, counselling and medication administration. There are 18.6m people living in Malawi.The Malawian government only allocates 1.5% of its budget to mental health.
